SOULSTORM To Release New Material
July 20, 2003Before relocating to Los Angeles, SOULSTORM lead singer/bassist Nick Sagias and longtime drummer Patrick Harquail went into Peter Hudson's Hallamusic studios (MONSTER VOODOO MACHINE, INTERZONE) in Toronto and recorded 10 new songs in an all-day jam that were left as rough skeletons to build the new songs upon.
"At the time of recording Pat and I had a rough idea that we kicked around, which turned into ten songs," Nick explained. "I didn't have lyrics done so there were only a couple of rough tracks recorded. It was great to jam with friends [whose] work and playing I've admired of the years. Guest guitarists included Jason Cuddy (MONSTER VOODOO MACHINE),Rob Wright (ex-MALHAVOC) and Rob Urbinati (SACRIFICE, INTERZONE) who also contributed backing vocals on a song tentatively titled 'Cold' (from '92). Even Ron Sumners (SLAUGHTER) came down and took pictures of the jam.
"This time the recording ran a lot smoother than the last time I was at Halla, recording back-up vocals on MONSTER VOODOO MACHINE's last CD 'Direct Reaction Now'," Sagias recounted. "[That time] three guys with ski masks and a gun came in, held guns to our heads and duct-taped our hands and feet while they made of with about $100,000 worth of studio gear."
Sagias is planning on adding his vocals to the songs recorded during the Hallamusic sessions and sending out a "limited" amount of promotional copies with a view toward landing a record deal. "The new stuff is in old-school SOULTORM style with influences from early CELTIC FROST to minimalist/tribal influences," he added. Among the tracks set to appear on the CD are "Crush", "X Out The Poison", "Interwoven" and "Blood".
